Executive Board

Tara Whitehead-Stotland, President

Tara WhiteheadMrs. Whitehead-Stotland has held numerous executive positions in the Information Technology field for the past 14 years including IBM and EDS. Her extensive background in technology consulting resulted in her being named to Who's Who Among International Business Leaders. Mrs. Whitehead - Stotland is currently serving as the President Emeritus, Goizueta Business School of Emory University, Alumni Advisory Board and Co-Chairman, Marketing Committee and Member, Board of Governors, Emory University.

Mrs. Whitehead - Stotland is a graduate of the BBA and Communications Programs from Southern Methodist University. She also holds an MBA from Emory University and an International MBA from Nijenrode University in The Netherlands

Joseph Moore, President Elect

Joseph MooreMr. Moore is a Human Resources professional currently serving as the Director – Human Resources and Planning for Engineering and Planning at Verizon Communications. He has over 20 years of experience in employee development, EEO/Affirmative Action, compensation, staffing, reduction-in-force, employee relocation, and base pay services.

Mr. Moore received a Bachelor of Arts degree with Distinction in Speech Communication from the University of Virginia, a Master of Arts degree in Speech Communication and Organizational Behavior from Indiana University at Bloomington, and a Master of Arts degree in Labor & Industrial Relations from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Mr. Moore is currently the Vice Chair of the Board for the Lewisville, TX-based not-for-profit, Christian Community Action. Also, he serves on the Advisory Board for Diversity in Engineering for The City College of New York (CCNY).

Dr. Marilyn Hurlbut, Vice President & COO

Marilyn HurlbutDr. Hurlbut has 25 years experience in consulting, executive coaching, managing, training, and teaching. As a consultant, she has worked both in-house and independently. Her in-house experience was with a major oil company (ARCO Oil and Gas Company), where she worked directly with the President and senior executives, focusing on executive communication within the organization and the identification and development of future leaders. Her independent consulting clients include Merck, Johnson and Johnson, and IBM.

Dr. Hurlbut holds a Ph.D. in Interpersonal Communication and Counseling from the University of North Texas where she has also been an adjunct professor. More recently, she has served as an adjunct professor at Africa University in Zimbabwe, teaching graduate seminars in leadership as well as communication skills to undergraduate students.

Barbara Williams, Secretary

Barbara WilliamsMrs. Williams has a varied work background including entrepreneurial, health care, and non-profit work. She and her husband successfully ran a motorcycle, auto, and RV dealerships for over 10 years. She also worked for Mission Possible helping get Bibles into Easter Bloc countries during the waning years of the Cold War. In addition, Mrs. Williams worked for many years at the Denton Eye Center in Denton, Texas where she managed the office and provided care to patients.

Mrs. Williams attended Pasadena City College School of Nursing in Pasadena, California.

Mike Sherwood, Treasurer

Mike SherwoodMr. Sherwood is a Christian who has been involved in health care for almost 30 years as an EMT, Paramedic and Manager. He has been active in Habitat for Humanity since 1990 when he was a founding board member of the Pasadena Texas Habitat for Humanity Chapter. He is currently a cabinet and furniture maker with a shop in Lewisville, Texas. He has an Masters in Business Administration with a finance focus from the University of Dallas.

Ron Beer

Ron BeerDr. Beer retired as an administrator in higher education after serving 43 years at three major universities, including 20 years as V.P. for Student Services and Professor at Oklahoma State. Educational and mission working adventures have taken Ron and spouse Cara to 23 different countries over their 43 years of marriage. Beer was one of the founding member's of the Stillwater Habitat for Humanity, starting his fifth three-year term on the Board of Directors, including one as President and many on the construction crew. He has served on and held offices in numerous city, state, and national governing boards. He is currently V.P. of the Board of Trustees that is developing a private, non-profit, White Woods Retirement Campus in Stillwater, OK, a five tier retirement community.

Dr. Beer holds degrees from Illinois State University, Michigan State University, and Kent State University. He and Cara live in Stillwater, OK.

Michael Doherty

Mike DohertyMr. Doherty's work in the non-profit field started as a construction volunteer in 1991 with Habitat for Humanity in Lexington, KY. Since then he has served as the founding President of Greater Lewisville Habitat for Humanity in Lewisville, TX and assisted in the merger of this organization with Denton HFH to form HFH of Denton County which has provided affordable housing for over 80 families. He has also served as Habitat for Humanity's Vice President of the North Texas Council of Affiliates from 2004 - 2006 and as an advisor to Habitat Texas. He has also served his local community as Vice Chair of the Ethics Committee for the City of Highland Village, TX. He was also the founding President for Mozambique Development in Motion, bringing his wealth of knowledge in this area to make MDiM a better non-profit organization.

Mr. Doherty's professional career includes 15 years in industrial water treatment/filtration. For the past 14 years he has held various management positions in the telecommunications industry. He currently leads a team of network solution sales professionals within HP's Enterprise Services business unit. He holds a B.A. in Anthropology from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Richard E. Duncan

Richard DuncanMr. Duncan is a Healthcare Consultant with over 35 years of experience as a healthcare administration executive. Rich has served as Vice President of Catholic Health Initiatives and VP/Chief Information Officer of The Children's Medical Center of Dallas, TX which received the American Hospital Association's Most Wired Award three times; The MetroHealth System in Cleveland, OH; Lehigh Valley Health System in Lehigh, PA; Hospital Sisters Health System in Springfield, IL and Baptist Health System in Birmingham, AL. Rich has served as the Chairman of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS); Healthcare Information Systems Executive Association (HISEA) and was named "CIO of the Year" by the American Hospital Association/HIMSS in 1993.

Rich is a US Navy veteran and has a Master of Business Administration Degree from Samford University and a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama.

Janelle Kavanaugh

Ray ThiettenMs. Kavanaugh has more than 40 years experience in operating small businesses. She has worked as a contractor, providing assessment center testing for numerous cities across the nation as well as training for the National Fire Academy and has been an adjunct professor at TCU.

Ms. Kavanaugh has served in the past on the Salvation Army Area Command Board and the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center Advisory Board and currently is active in the Rotary Club of Fort Worth East. Ms. Kavanaugh received a Bachelor of Science degree in Experimental Psychology from the University of Texas at Arlington, a Master’s of Business Administration from Texas Christian University, and has done graduate work in Industrial Psychology at the University of North Texas.

In 2004 Ms. Kavanaugh was recognized by Governor Rick Perry as one of the Great Women of Texas, Woman of Influence for her international relief work.

Andrew Kidd

Mr. Kidd is currently serving on the Boards of Overoaks Community Development District in Kissimmee, FL and is the VP of the Triple Creek Municipal Management District in McLendon Chisholm, TX. Mr. Kidd is a principle in Noble Kidd Development which has developed over 4500 apartment units and 1640 single family lots. His firm is currently developing a $100 Million+ single family golf course community near Dallas, Texas. He has also served as a Board member for Young Life from 1984-1995. Mr. Kidd earned his B.S. and MBA from Texas Tech University.

Katinya Lilly

Katinya LillyKatinya is a Christian that has been involved with Mozambique Development in Motion since October 2008. She is the Global Web Metrics Program Manager for Texas Instruments. She has Bachelors Degree in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin and Computer Science from Tyler Junior College. Outside of her day job, Katinya spends her spare time as a freelance web manager and designer for over 10 years for various organizations including Mozambique Development in Motion and a dance/fitness instructor. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Future Lilly, and they have four beautiful children, two girls and twin boys.

Joao (John) Massochua

John MassochuaMr. Joao (John) N. Massochua is a native Mozambican born in Inhambane Province and was raised in Morrumbene District. He has six years of work experience as procurement officer for a private company-Coca Cola and Non-Profit Organization - UNFPA. He also has experience entrepreneurship and consulting. John is a Board Member and representative of MDiM.

At 15 years old, he moved to Chicuque to pursue secondary school. He attended Africa University of Zimbabwe while being sponsored by an MDiM board member and received a Bachelor Degree in Business Studies.

Joaquim Muando

Joaquim MuandoMr. Muando is a native Mozambican who was born and raised in Chicuque, Mozambique. He has more than six years of experience in external and internal auditing. He has worked for KPMG in Mozambique where he audited financial statements of various companies in different areas including commercial and Industrial Institutions, financial sector and not for profit organizations. His work experience also extends to internal auditing where he has worked with an international not-for-profit entity, World Vision, as a senior internal auditor.

Joaquim holds a Bachelors Degree (Honors) in Business Studies from Africa University and he is also a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), professional designation awarded by The Institute of Internal Auditors, Inc. His studies at Africa University were sponsored by two current MDiM Board of Directors members.

Ray Thietten

Ray ThiettenRay Thietten is vice president of Global Network Services, responsible for leading the fast-growing global network delivery for Infrastructure Technology Outsourcing within HP’s Enterprise Services. In this role, Ray and his team oversee the strategy and delivery of network services and the go-to-market portfolio of network services around the globe.

Previously, he was the director of EDS Global Network Capability where he led the team responsible for setting up the Global Network Operations Centers and standardization of EDS’ network delivery centers and capability.

Ray holds a master of science degree in management from Walsh College and a bachelor of science degree in computer science from the University of Idaho. He also is a graduate of EDS’ Systems Engineering Development Program, Technical Consulting Program, and Manufacturing Engineering Leadership training.

Jackie Watkins

Jackie WatkinsJackie Watkins retired from Crawford Electric Supply Company (CESCO) after serving 18 years as the Chief Financial Officer. During her tenure at CESCO from 1990 to 2008 the company grew from a single branch operation with revenues of $1 Million to an eight branch operation with revenues of over $420 Million. By 2008, the company was ranked 9th in sales amongst all independent electrical distributors in the country. The company also won numerous Dallas Top 100 Business Awards while under her financial and operational leadership. Specific job responsibilities included financial analysis, financial audits, G/L, A/R, A/P, H/R and Inventory Control in accordance with all GAAP standards. Jackie developed and managed external financial relationships and constantly looked for ways to strengthen the overall financial performance of the company.

Since 1996 Jackie has served in numerous roles at Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church including Leadership Board, Finance Committee, Endowment Committee, Youth Leader and Sunday School teacher. She is also Co-Chair of Trietsch Africa Missions and North Texas District Area Coordinator for the Imagine No Malaria Campaign. In addition to her work at Trietsch, Jackie also served as President of The Actors Conservatory Board of Directors from 2004-2006 and currently volunteers on various committees at Marcus High School.
